No. 17 Michigan State Falters at Home Against No. 14 Wisconsin

East Lansing, Mich. – No. 17 Michigan State fell behind early and struggled with its shooting throughout the game, and fell behind early and could not recover as No. 14 Wisconsin beat the Spartans, 65-58, at the Breslin Center Tuesday night.
Senior forward Marcus Bingham Jr. (Grand Rapids, Mich./GR Catholic Central) scored 15 points to lead the Spartans, while junior forward Malik Hall (Aurora, Ill./Sunrise Christian Academy [Kan.]) added 12 points and four rebounds.

It was the second-straight loss, and the third in the last five games, for Michigan State, who falls to 17-6 overall and 8-4 in the Big Ten, while Wisconsin improves to 19-4 overall and 10-3 in the league.

- Trialing by six points at the break and struggling from the field for most of the game, the Spartans fell behind by 10 points, 35-25, on a 3-pointer from Brad Davison at the 16:01 mark.
- Down by eight points, 43-35, with just over 13 minutes left, the Spartans would use a 9-2 run to pull within one point, 45-44, on a layup from Joey Hauser (Stevens Point, Wis./Stevens Point) with 9:06 left.
- A jumper from Hall cut the Wisconsin lead to 50-47 with 6:46 left, and a basket from Bingham with 4:47 left made it 52-49.
- The Badgers responded with a 9-2 run and took a 61-51 lead on a layup from Davis with 1:46 left and the Spartans could not recover.

- Michigan State just 41.5 percent from the floor (22-of-53), including just 32.0 percent in the first half (8-of-25), and hit only three 3-pointers for the game (21.4%, 3-of-14).
- The Spartans committed 12 turnovers, including eight in the second half.
