
Six Spartans Win Event Titles at Big Ten Indiana Invite #4/Billy Hayes Invitational

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Michigan State track & field captured six event titles at the Big Ten Indiana Invite #4/Billy Hayes Invitational on April 30-May 1 at the Billy Hayes Track & Field Complex.
"I thought that everyone came in, for the most part, with the intention of competing, engaging with the competition and seeing how things would go. I think we did that really well with some PRs and event winners. Whether it went really well today, or you still have some things to work on, don't settle right now," Interim Director of Cross Country and Track & Field Lisa Breznau said. "Know that you can still improve from here. If you settle from here, than any momentum that we have going into Big Tens will just evaporate."
On Saturday, the Spartans ran a season-best 46.25 in the 4x100m relay. The team of Jaiden Paris, Shakira Dancy, Tamea McKelvy and Amani Nuels took third in the event. The MSU men (Zach DiStefano, Jonathan Fife, Antonio Postell, Adoni Kirkland) also finished third in the 4x100m relay, crossing the line in 41.55.
For the second-straight week, Jerimiah Evans took home first place in the men's shot put with a best throw of 18.75m. Last week, he took first in the Fighting Illini Big Ten Relays setting a new PR (19.03m). Evans won his second title of the day in the discus (56.19m). He has won back-to-back titles in both the shot put and the discus.
Rebecca Mammel continues set the bar higher and higher for herself in the hammer throw. After a season best last week at the Fighting Illini Big Ten Relays, she set a new personal to take second place with a throw of 62.20m. Her previous best was 60.98m at the Virginia Challenge in 2019. The senior also finished seventh in the discus with a throw of  47.17m.
Morgan Beadlescomb continued to have success in Bloomington by winning the 800m. Today, he finished first with a time of 1:48.13, the best by a Spartan in the event this season. John Gove finished 10th with a PR time of1:50.29, while Jalen Smith was 14th (1:52.44). He also won the 5000m at the Big Ten Indiana Invite #3 and took second with a new school record in the 1500m at the Big Ten Indiana Invite #2.
In the women's 1500m, the Spartans took gold and bronze. Sarah Anderson set a new personal best en route to a first-place finish with a time of 4:17.14. Jenna Magness was third, finishing with a time of  4:20.95. She shaved nine seconds of her previous best of 4:29.62 at the Louisville Invitational in 2019.
John Petruno finished second in the men's 1500m with yet another of MSU's PRs. He earned second with a time of 3:43.94, Â topping his previous best of 3:45.83 at the Big Ten Indiana Invite #2 earlier this year.
Michigan State also captured of pair of victories in the javelin throw. On the women's side, Brittany Krug set yet another PR (48.34m) to finish first, while on the men's side Frank Braccini won with a throw of 53.01m.
In the women's 100m hurdles prelim, Paris tied her PR, running a 13.78 to finish fourth. She went on to finish sixth in the final with a time of 14.07. In the 200m dash, Dancy finished second with a person-best  (23.73).
Postell also reached the final in the 100m with a time of 10.60. He flourished in the final, finishing fourth, crossing the line in 10.62. Postell continues his strong showing with a fourth-place finish in the men's 200m with a time of 21.23, which was a new PR.
Michigan State had another strong showing in the pole vault. On the women's side, Calli Ostapowicz took second with a vault of 3.88m. Â She was just shy of her career best of 3.94m set at the B1G Husker Invitational. Trevor Stephenson also finished third in the pole vault, clearing 5.17m.
In Friday's action, Casey Mossholder took second in the women's 3,000m steeplechase. In her first time in the event she captured silver with a time of 10:18.58. Aimee Piercy finished fifth, crossing the line in 10:38.42.
Competing in her first 5000m, Makayla Perez finished fifth with a time of 16:14.15.
"We are wrapping up an unique season, and it has been nice to compete within the Big Ten, but it also every weekend you are competing against some of the highest level athletes in the country. In one sense, it is a great opportunity to learn and grow, but there is a short learning curve when it is that intense. I think that our stuent-athletes are handling that really well," Breznau said.
The Spartans conclude the regular season at the Paddock Open in Ann, Arbor, Michigan on May 8.
