
Beadlescomb Breaks School Record at Big Ten Indiana Invite #3 Friday

EAST LANSING, Mich. - On what proved to be a stellar night for the Spartan distance runners, senior Morgan Beadlescomb broke the school record in the 5000m at the Big Ten Indiana Invite #3, Friday at the Billy Hayes Track & Field Complex on Friday.
In the highly-competitive race, Beadlescomb broke his own school record and shattered the track record, winning with a time of 13:40.44. The previous track record was set by UCLA's Meb Keflezighi in 1997 with a time of 13:44.17.Beadlescomb's school record was 13:47.44 at the Raleigh Relays in 2019.
"Stadium record, school record and the exciting thing is that Morgan still has more there. I think he has been training really well and that Coach (Aaron) Simoneau has done a really nice job with him," Interim Director of Cross Country and Track & Field Lisa Breznau said. "Today was just a benchmark to move ahead for the rest of the season. This was a great field, and I know that Morgan is going to be even more competitive through the rest of the season."
James Uhlenberg took fourth in his first collegiate outdoor 5000m with at time of 13:51.86, while Abdi Ahmed was 12th with another great time of 14:04.33. Fraser Wilson was the last of the Spartans' to finish in the top 15, finishing 14th (14:08.83).
In the women's 5000m, Michigan State took three of the top five spots led by Jenna Magness' second-place finish in her outdoor debut. Magness had a huge PR with a time of 15:40.14 to lead the Spartan group. India Johnson (16:02.05) and Lynsie Gram (16:05.45) finished fourth and fifth, respectively both with personal bests. Makenna Veen finished 14th with a time of 16:56.91.
"On the women's side, I was really pleased with how it went. Jenna led a for about 4000m, so I was pleased with how she managed herself. I think there is more there, which is really exciting. India took a chance, and I think it paid off, and she had a big PR. Lynsie Gram did a nice job too in kind of our first meet back since the indoor and cross country season," Breznau said.
In the women's 1500m, senior Sarah Anderson made her outdoor debut with a third-place finish, crossing the line with a time of 4:20.31. Anderson was one of four Spartans to finish in the top 10. Katie Osika was the top finisher in heat one with a time of 4:25.07 to finish sixth, while Casey Mossholder was seventh (4:26.00), which was a personal best. Aimee Piercy finished crossed the line in 4:30.10 to take 10th.
John Gove continued the solif day for MSU, finishing third in the men's 800m with a time of 1:51.57. His previous best was 1:51.93 last week at the Big Ten Indiana Invite #2. Jalen Smith took 11th with a time of 1:57.37.
Jerimiah Evans earned a pair of wins in the shot put and the discus. Evans fought for a personal best in the shot put with at throw of 18.63. In the discus, he captured the win with a best throw of 57.77m.
Michigan State will conclude the weekend with the final day of action at the B1G Husker Invitational in Prairie View, Texas.
