Spartan Men Finish 10th at B1G Men's Swimming Championships

East Lansing, Mich. -- Michigan State finished 10th at the Big Ten Swimming Championships, contested over the last week at Ohio State.

Michigan won the men's title, and finished the five-day event with 1,401 points, while Indiana followed with 1,357 points, just edging out host Ohio State (1,322). Purdue claimed fourth place (732) and Wisconsin finished fifth (729).
Sophomore Travis Nitkiewicz was named MSU's sportsmanship award winner, and he finished with an NCAA B qualifying mark in Friday's finals of the 100 breast. Also making an NCAA B cut was senior Aidan Farley, who was 14th in Saturday's 100 free.

- Michigan State took 10th in the 200 medey relay to start the competition. Evan Stansilaw, Travis Nitkiewicz, Bradley Sanford, and Kevin MIlls were clocked in a time of 1:27.34.
- The 800 free relay team of Aidan Farley, James Gavin, Peter Corsetti, and Jack Hiss touched the pad in a time of 6:38.35, and finished 10th.

- Michigan State had six entries in the prelims of the 200 IM, led by sophomore Travis Nitkiewicz (1:50.04). Behind Nitkiewicz was Stephan Freitag (1:50.57), Michael Bennington (1:51.26), Phillip Meffert (1:51.26), Grant Wolner (1:52.76), Lucas Smiarowski (1:53.32), and Jack Hiss (1:57.54).
- In the 50 free prelims, Evan Stanislaw (20.53) Kevin Mills (20.61). Charlie Ryan (21.18), Brian Jiang (21.19), Cooper Prue (21.63), Josh Pascua (21.68), Jonathan Lee (21.83), and Cristofer Gore (21.92) were the Spartan entrants.
- Seniors Aidan Farley (4:28.62) and Guy Moskovich (4:29.53) led the way for the Green and White in the 500 free, followed by Peter Corsetti (4:29.56) freshman James Gavin (4:30.71) and Alexander Eddy (4:42.20)
- In the 400 medley relay, the Spartans were 10th in a time of 3:15.65 (Evan Stanislaw, Jonathan Lee, Bradley Sanford, Stephan Freitag).

- Bradley Sanford finished fourth in the C Final and 20th overall in the 100 fly, (47.58) bettering his time of 47.71 from the prelims. Also swimming for MSU in the prelims was Stephan Freitag (48.37), Evan Stanislaw (49.09), Josh Pascua (49.46), Cristofer Gore (49.49), Grant Wolner (50.35) and Alexander Eddy (50.87).
- Aidan Farley just missed a night swim in the 200 free, clocked in a time of 1:37.41. Peter Corsetti (1:38.81), James Gavin (1:40.01), Guy Moskovich (1:42.25), Jack Hiss (1:43.76) and Alexander Eddy (1:46.13) also swam in the prelims.
- The Spartan duo of Lucas Smiarowski (4:00.99) and Michael Bennington (4:01.12) swam the prelims of the 400 IM.

Friday Results : Preliminaries Finals
- Travis Nitkiewicz advanced into the C final of the 100 breast and posted a finals time of 54.11, which put him 23rd overall. In the prelims, he clocked in with a time of 53.92, a lifetime best and also an NCAA "B" qualifying time. Also swimming in the prelims in this event were Jonathan Lee (54.58), Cooper Prue (56.24), Phillip Meffert (56.32), Grant Wolner (56.77) and Stephan Freitag (56.77).
- In the 200 fly, MSU's top time belonged to freshman Cristofer Gore, who swam a 1:47.98, which is eighth all-time at MSU and was the second alternate into the evening C final. Josh Pascua (1:54.03), Jack Hiss (1:57.29), also swam in the prelims.
- MSU had two entries into the 100 back: senior Charlie Ryan (46.69) and Evan Stanislaw (49.71).
- MSU's 200 Free Relay of Aiden Farley, Bradley Sanfrd, Kevin Mills, and Evan Stanislaw finished ninth with a time of 1:19.21.
Saturday, March 6
Saturday Results : Preliminaries Finals
- Senior Aiden Farley qualified for the B final in the 100 free, and finished 14th overall in the event with a time of 43.54, bettering his prelim time of 43.74. Both were an NCAA provisional qualifying mark. Also in the event for MSU was Bradley Sanford (44.96), Kevin Mills (44.97), Peter Corsetti, and Brian Jiang (46.60).
- In the 200 back, Michael Bennington was MSU's top finisher (1:48.73), with Charlie Ryan (1:50.98) also competing in the event.
- In the 200 breast, Travis Nitkiewicz swam a 1:58.23, and is the first alternate. It is also his second event with an NCAA B qualifying time in two days, as he did the same in the 100 breast on Friday. MSU also had Jonathan Lee (1:59.52), Cooper Prue (2:03.33), Phillip Meffert (2:03.36) and Lucas Smiarowski (2:03.68) in the prelims of the event.
- James Gavin swam a 15:41.30 in the 1650.
- The 400 free relay of Aidan Farley, Bradley Sanford, Kevin Mills, and Stephan Freitag clocked a 2:56.80 to take 10th.
