EAST LANSING, Mich. – After teaming up for three matches last weekend at the Wolverine Invitational, graduate student Mary Lewis and senior Maja Pietrowicz of the Michigan State women's tennis team are set to take part in the doubles tournament at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-American Championship starting Wednesday, Oct. 6 in Charleston, South Carolina.
For the rest of the Spartan squad, they will head to the Wildcat Invite on Oct. 8-10, hosted by Big Ten foe Northwestern in Evanston, Illinois.
The Lewis/Pietrowicz pair, ranked No. 28 in the preseason ITA doubles poll, will open play on Wednesday, Oct. 6 in the round of 32. The duo are only the second Michigan State team all-time to be selected to play in the championship.
Lewis and Pietrowicz are coming off a 2020-21 season that saw the duo go 8-4 overall and 7-3 against Big Ten competition. The doubles team posted a 1-2 record over the weekend at the Wolverine Invitational, also combining to go 5-2 in singles play in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
MSU will look for its other members to continue to improve after a positive first two weeks, as senior Lauren Lemonds and freshman Charlotte Gisclon are both 2-3 in singles play, while also posting a 2-3 record as a duo so far. Senior Nicole Stephens, after a week off, is set to build upon a 2-1 singles run at the ITA Midwest Regionals.
Following this weekend, the Spartans are off for a week before returning to action at the ITA Super Regionals in Columbus, Ohio.
