1/14/2021 1:41:00 PM | Swimming and Diving
East Lansing, Mich. -- Michigan State swimming and diving kicks off its 2021 campaign this Saturday (January 16), swimming at Purdue with Illinois (women only). The meet starts at 2 pm in West Lafayette. Â
Â
"We're excited to finally have an opportunity to compete," said head coach Matt Gianiodis. "There have obviously been a lot of challenges for us in the first semester, so an opportunity to get in the pool will be really good for all of our athletes. We're looking forward to our weekend in West Lafayette."

A total of 16 seniors lead MSU into the weekend; nine women (Taylor Arnold, Olivia Chick, Taylor Contino, Marie Dickson, Amanda Ling, Erin Neely, Abbey Neveling, Erin Szara, and Elise Turke) and seven men (Aidan Farley, Phillip Meffert, Guy Moskovich, Josh Pascua, Charlie Ryan, Lucas Smiarowski, and Weston Youngblood). Divers Ling and Neely were All-America selections based on their qualifying for the NCAA zone meet.Â
Â
One area that the Spartans have always excelled is in the classroom, where a total of 43 swimmers qualified for Academic All-Big Ten honors last year and MSU finished in the top 10 of team rankings by the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) – the men were fourth in the most recent team ranking, while the women were tied for seventh.Â
