Spartans Tied for Fourth Place After Round One of the B1G Championships

MAINEVILLE, Ohio – The Michigan State women's golf team is tied for fourth place – six shots off the lead – after the opening round of the 2019 Big Ten Championships, played on Friday at TPC River's Bend in Maineville, Ohio. Illinois leads the field after a 3-over-par 291, followed by Ohio State and Indiana tied for second place at 6-over-par 294. MSU is tied with Purdue at 9-over-par 297 in fourth place.
GOLFSTAT
Allyson Geer-Park, Valery Plata and Paz Marfa Sans all shot 2-over-par 74s and are tied for 14th place.
Geer-Park was steady all day with 15 pars, while Plata was 3-over-par through 10 holes, but then made seven straight pars and closed her round with a birdie.
Marfa Sans came back from a double bogey on the par-5 fifth hole with two pars and two birdies to end the front nine at 1-under-par, while she was 3-over-par on the back.
Sydney Naro is tied for 27th place after a 3-over-par 75. Naro birdied two of the first three holes to start the day and was 1-over-par at the turn. She got to 5-over-par through 14 holes, but used two birdies and two pars to end the day.
Yurika Tanida responded from a 6-over-par front nine by going even on the back with seven pars. Her 6-over-par 78 puts her in a tie for 48th place.
Haylin Harris shot an 8-over-par 80 and is tied for 63rd place.
Just three players - Melati Putri of Purdue; Kornkamol Sukaree, of Illinois; and Kari Bellville of Indiana – shot under par on Friday. All three are tied for the lead at 1-under-par 71.
Saturday's second round is scheduled to get underway at 9:30 a.m.
