EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State women's tennis team takes to the road this weekend, playing host Notre Dame and Wright State in a doubleheader in South Bend, Ind. on Saturday, Feb. 16. MSU will face Notre Dame at 10 a.m. and Wright State at 5 p.m. Both matches will take place at the Eck Tennis Pavilion.
Notre Dame leads the all-time series record 8-4, while Michigan State has won the only previous meeting with Wright State.
The Spartans are coming off a successful weekend in which they defeated UConn, 6-1, and Bowling Green, 4-0, in a doubleheader on Saturday, Feb. 9. The team is now 5-3 on the season and have won four of their last five matches.
So far this season, Michigan State has secured the doubles point in all but one match. The doubles lineup is backed by the No. 56-ranked doubles pair in the country, senior Emily Metcalf and freshman Maja Pietrowicz, who are 6-1 on the season at No. 1 doubles.
Junior Samantha Memije and freshman Nicole Stephens have provided a spark for the Spartans in both singles and doubles this spring, as the duo have paired for an undefeated 4-0 record at second doubles.
Memije continues to see success in singles this spring, as the junior holds a 4-1 record at No. 2 singles after playing a majority of matches at No. 6 last season.
Stephens has started her first season as a Spartan off strong as she is 7-0 in singles, while playing on courts four, five and six.
The Spartans return home next weekend as they host Marquette University Friday, Feb. 22 at 5 p.m. and Dartmouth College Sunday, Feb. 24 at 10 a.m. Both matches will take place at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility.
