MSU Women's Soccer Hosts Iowa on Sunday

The Spartans look to remain undefeated at home this season with a 6-0-0 home record.
EAST LANSING, Mich. -Â The Spartans return home to the friendly confines of DeMartin Stadium for a Sunday matchup with Iowa at 1 p.m.
Michigan State currently sits at 8-3-1 on the season, including a 1-2-1 mark in Big Ten play.
LAST TIME OUT
Michigan State took to the road on Thursday to open the month of October and battled to a 0-0 draw with Minnesota.
Although the shot count was favored toward the Gophers, 24-8, Michigan State held its own in a hard-fought physical battle on the road.
Redshirt-freshman goalkeeper Lauren Kozal had a career-high nine saves for the Spartans.

This was the second straight season that the matchup between the Spartans and  Gophers ended in a draw.
DEFENDING DEMARTIN

The Spartans have only allowed four goals at home this season and have recorded three shutouts in East Lansing. The three shutouts at home are the most since the 2015 season when the team also shutout three opponents.
The Spartans have one overtime win at home this season which was a 3-2 win over Bowling Green on Sept. 12. This was the Spartans' first overtime win at home in two seasons as MSU's last overtime win at home was on Sept. 29, 2016. The Spartans defeated Maryland, 3-2, in double overtime.
SCOUTING THE HAWKEYES
The Spartans lead the series history with the Hawkeyes, 11-7-5. MSU holds a 7-2-3 record in home matches vs. Iowa.

Last season, MSU fell to Iowa, 1-0, on the road on Oct. 12.

Iowa began the season 9-0-0 and are 2-2 in Big Ten games. Their only losses of the season were at Purdue, 1-0, and vs. Northwestern, 2-1.

Iowa is led by senior Devin Burns, who has registered a point in eight of Iowa's 12 games. She leads the team with five goals this season.

The Hawkeyes defeated Nebraska in Iowa City, 1-0, at home on Oct. 3.
SPARTANS AMONG THE NATION'S BEST
Gia Wahlberg, Camryn Evans and Danielle Stephan are both ranked nationally in total goals and total assists, respectively.

With her eight goals this season, Wahlberg leads the Big Ten and is tied for 10th nationally in total goals scored.

Wahlberg has scored the most goals by a Spartan in a single-season since Laura Heyboer scored 18 goals during the 2011 season. The forward is also tied for third nationally with four-game winning goals.

Evans and Stephan are tied with a team-high five assists in the first 11 games, which is good for second in the Big Ten. Stephan led the Spartans in assists for the past two seasons, tallying six in 2017 and four last season.

FRESHMEN IN THE LINEUP
Freshmen Paige Webber and Bria Schrotenboer have earned starting positions in the Spartan lineup this season.

Webber is the only freshman to start in all 12 games this season and has 10 points with four goals and two assists to begin her rookie campaign.

Schrotenboer has started in nine games on the Spartan backline this season, playing in all 90 minutes in seven of the eight games. Against Minnesota, Schrotenboer had two consecutive blocked shots in double overtime to deny the Gophers attack. The freshman missed three games at the beginning of the season to train with the U.S. U-20 Women's National Team in California.
