No. 5 Spartan Soccer Concludes Homestand Against UCR Monday

Michigan State will battle the Highlanders on Labor Day.
EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State men's soccer will take on UC Riverside in a Labor Day battle on Monday, Sept. 3 at 1 p.m. The game against the Highlanders concludes a season-long four-game homestand. After the first three games, MSU holds a 2-0-1 record.
In their last outing, the Spartans upended Canisius ,3-2, behind goals from three different players. Senior Hunter Barone now leads the team in scoring after scoring his first goal of the season. He has one goal and one assist for three points. Overall, Hunter Barone, senior DeJuan Jones, and freshmen Nick Woodruff and Farai Mutatu have scored this season.
UC Riverside has started the season with an 0-3 record. To open the season, the Highlanders dropped a 3-2 decision to Loyola Marymount. UCR then fell to UC Santa Barbara on the road, 3-1. On Friday, UCR lost to Michigan in Ann Arbor, 3-0. The Spartans and the Highlanders have only met on other time with MSU earning a 2-1 win in Corvallis, Oregon in 2006.
UC Riverside has had two different goalkeepers this season with Angel Noriega started the first game of the season. Edwyn Guitierrez played the final 45 minutes in the season opener and all of the games against UCSB and UM. This season, the Highlanders have scored three goals, while allowing nine.
After facing the Highlanders, MSU will take to the road for the first time this season traveling to Bowling Green on Friday, Sept. 7 at 7 p.m.
