NEW ORLEANS, La. - Michigan State men's tennis wrapped up its spring break trip with a match against No. 34 Tulane on Friday afternoon at the City Park Pepsi Tennis Center in New Orleans, falling 7-0.
"Tulane's a great team but we certainly could have been more competitive," MSU head coach Gene Orlando said. "We had a great week of practice, but we still struggled to find our game."
In doubles play, the Green Wave claimed the first match early with a 6-0 win from the No. 80-ranked duo of junior Tyler Schick and Luis Erlenbusch over junior Billy Shisler and freshman Jack Winkler. Sophomore Ewan Moore and senior Constantin Schmitz clinched the doubles point on court one with a 6-2 defeat over senior pair Brett Forman and Jasper Koenen.
Ranked No. 77 in singles, Moore finished first with a 6-0, 6-2 win over senior Michael Dube on court two, and Erlenbusch followed with a 6-0, 6-3 win against Shisler on court five. The match was clinched with a 6-3, 6-0 victory from No. 15 Schmitz over Forman at No. 1 singles.
Tulane took the remaining three matches, with victories from freshman Hamish Stewart over freshman Josh Mukherjee (6-3, 6-3), sophomore Tim Ruetzel over Koenen (7-6 (7-5), 6-0) and Schick over freshman Davis Wong (6-1, 7-5).
