
Spartans Season Ends at Big Ten Tournament

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The 2016-17 Michigan State men's tennis season came to an end on Thursday, April 27 in the single-elimination Big Ten Tournament after a 4-0 loss to No. 23 Northwestern at the Schwartz Tennis Center in West Lafayette, Ind. Michigan State's season ended with an overall record of 11-18.
The Spartans conceded the doubles points after dropping decisions at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. Colin Harvey and Michael Dube dropped at No. 2 doubles to Dominik Stary and Strong Kirchheimer 6-2 and Billy Shisler and Doug Francken fell 6-3 at No. 3 doubles, which left Brett Forman and Jasper Koenen's match at No. 1 doubles unfinished.
After heading into singles play with a 1-0 advantage the Wildcats rallied off wins in the bottom three singles matches to leave the top three unfinished and claim the 4-0 win in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament. Alexander Kim suffered a 6-0, 6-2 setback at No. 6 singles, Shisler fell 6-3, 6-3 at No. 5 and Ivan Rakic dropped 6-3, 7-5 at No. 4 singles.
Michael Dube had a battle at No. 3 singles defeating Sam Shropshire 7-5 in the first set, conceding the second set 6-1 but the final set was left unfinished. Koenen played at No. 2 singles and Forman represented the Spartans at No. 1 singles but both matches were left unfinished.
Dube was also the recipient of the Sportsmanship Award for Michigan State.
