Spartans Finish First Day of Jesse Owens and Virginia Challenege

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State track & field team is at split locations and concluded the first day of the Virginia Challenge and the Jesse Owens Invitational on Friday, April 21. The Spartans had top finishes at both locations and will both resume competition tomorrow, April 22 at their respective locations.
Virginia Challenge
In the sprinting events, sophomore Taylor Hopp got the meet started with an eighth-place finish in the 100-meter dash on a time of 11.81. For the men, freshman Savalas Morgan took 12th-place with a time of 10.81.
Sophomore Dillon McClintock anchored the mid-distance with a seventh-place finish in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:06.10. Karrigan Smith nabbed a personal-best time and a fourth-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase time clocking in at 10:21.51. For the men, Max Benoit finished sixth in the men's 3,000-meter steeple chase for a time of 8:54.45.
The pole vault was the lone field event for the Spartans on day one. Redshirt senior Hannah Sailar finished fourth with a height of 3.98-meters, while junior Noah Gary won the men's side with a jump of 5.35-meters.
Asya Reynolds is competing in the women's heptathlon finishing the first four events and will continue on day two for her final results. Tim Ehrhardt and Nick Nick Guerrant are competing in the men's Decathlon and will also have final results tomorrow.
Jesse Owens Invitational
Jade Madison was yet again the highlight for Michigan State as she finished first in the women's javelin with a personal-best throw of 46.22-meters. Max Knoblock also had a good showing finishing second with a throw of 62.51-meters.
The Spartans had four women in the 1,500-meter run but were led by Carlyn Arteaga who clocked in at 4:33.85 and finished 15th overall. Ryan Beyea led the men's group in the 1,500-meter run with a 12th-place finish and a time of 3:56.15.
In the hammer throw, Danny Wallace threw a personal-best of 48.44-meters, a personal-best by nearly two meters and he took fifth overall.
Michigan State will resume competition tomorrow, April 22 at their respective locations.
