Fiscus Named Second-Team All-American by United Soccer Coaches

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Senior defender Jimmy Fiscus was named second-team All-American by United Soccer Coaches on Thursday. Fiscus becomes 38th Spartan to receive All-America honors. Fiscus joins the ranks as the 11th Spartan all-time to receive second-team honors.
The native of Novi, Michigan, is the first Spartan since 2014 to earn All-American honors. That season future MLS stars Jay Chapman (first team) and Fatai Alashe (second team) both were honored. He is the first defender Kevin Cope also received third-team All-America honors in 2013.
Fiscus led the MSU position players in minutes played this season, playing in 1,877 of a possible 1,890 minutes. He tallied two goals and one assist for five total points. His second goal of the season came in the NCAA Tournament third-round match against Western Michigan, that proved to be the game-winner for the Spartans and advancing to the Elite Eight. Fiscus was part of a staunch MSU defensive backline that allowed a paltry 13 goals this season.
He earned both first-team All-Midwest Region and Big Ten honors this season after earning second-team honors in both categories in 2016.
Michigan State completed the 2017 season with a 13-3-4 record, as the Spartans' NCAA postseason run came to a heartbreaking end after tying 1-1 in overtime before falling, 3-2, on penalty kicks at Indiana on Dec. 1 in the Elite Eight. It was MSU's third Elite Eight appearance in the last five years.
