
No. 6 Spartans Battle to 1-1 Tie With Wisconsin

EAST LANSING, Mich. - No. 6 Michigan State men's soccer battled both Wisconsin and the windy and rainy conditions to earn a 1-1 double overtime tie at McClimon Complex in Madison, Wisconsin Saturday night.

The Spartans earned another point in Big Ten play, tying Indiana for second place with 11 points. MSU moves to 9-1-2 overall and 3-0-2 in Big Ten action, which is its best league start in school history. Wisconsin is now 7-2-3 overall and 3-1-1 in B1G play.
The Badgers scored the only goal of the first half in the eighth minute. Tom Barlow began the action with a shot that was saved by redshirt-junior goalkeeper Jimmy Hague. After the save the Big Ten leader in points, Chris Mueller took the deflection and gave the Badgers the early 1-0 lead.
The game began to even out throughout the first half as both teams ended the first 45 minutes with seven shots.
Early in the second half, the Spartan offense continued to show spark with shots from senior midfielder Brad Centala and junior forward Hunter Barone.
In the 60th minute, junior forward DeJuan Jones scored the equalizer, expertly depositing the ball in the upper left corner of the net. The goal was his team-leading sixth of the year.
As conditions continued to deteriorate, neither team could take control in the first 90 minutes as MSU headed to its third overtime game of the season. The Spartans are now 1-0-2 in overtime games this season. After 20 more minutes of action, neither team found the back of the net as the teams battled to a draw.
The Spartans will conclude their season-long three-game road trip, leaving the Midwest to take on West Virginia on Wednesday, Oct. 11 at 3 p.m.

- Head coach Damon Rensing is still just one win away from 100 career wins. Overall, he is 99-59-24 at MSU
- Junior forward DeJuan Jones continues to lead the team in scoring with six goals and two assists for 14 points.
- Michigan State trailed at half time for only the second time this season. MSU is now 0-1-1 when trailing at the half.
