Weatherhead Leads After Two Rounds of the Gopher Invitational

INDEPENDENCE, Minn. - Senior Sam Weatherhead is in first place after two rounds of the Gopher Invitational with a 3-under 139 (70-69). As a team, the Spartans are tied for fourth with Kent State with a 8-over 576 (292-284).

Individual Results
Michigan State's second round 284 was tied for second behind San Diego State's 282. The Spartans improved greatly after the round one 292. Overall, San Diego State is in first with a 3-over 571 (289-282). Arkansas and Oklahoma are tied for second with matching scores of 5-over 573.
Weatherhead improved upon his performance after two rounds at the Gopher Invitational last season. In the season opener last season, Weatherhead finished with a 5-over 147 (72-75) to lead MSU.
Sophomore Dylan Deogun is tied for ninth with an even 142 (72-70). The second round 70 was the lowest of Deogun's MSU career. Senior Charlie Netzel is also off to a great start for the Spartans. Netzel is tied for 16th with a 2-over 144 (73-71).
Junior Michael Sharp recovered after a rough first round and is tied for 50th after two rounds with a 9-over 151. After a first round 77, Sharp rebounded with a second round 74. Making his Spartan debut, freshman Andrew Walker is currently tied for 62nd with a 12-over 154 (79-75).
The Windsong Farm Golf Club is the host of the Gopher Invitational. The course is par-71 and 7,300 yards.
This season, the Gopher Individual goes along with the Gopher Invitational. The Spartans had three players competing as individuals. Freshman Austin Jenner was the top Spartan finisher after two rounds, standing 20th with a 6-over 150 (75-75). This was Jenner's first tournament as a Spartan.
Sophomore Glenn Piot is tied for 21st after two rounds with a 7-over 151 (76-75). Redshirt freshman Scott Dunsire is in 23rd after two rounds with a 8-over 152 (77-75).
The par-72 6,953-yard Pioneer Creek Golf Course is the site of the Gopher Individual.
Michigan State will conclude action at the Gopher Invitational with one more round on Sunday, Sept. 11. Walker will be the first Spartan to tee off at 7:30 a.m.
