
MSU Track & Field Earns Academic Honors

EAST LANSING, Mich. â€" The United States Track & Field Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced Thursday (July 28) the Division I All-Academic Student-Athletes. A total of 571 men and 910 women were honored by the USTFCCCA for their combined accomplishments both academically and athletically. Four men and nine women from the Michigan State Spartans Track & Field Team were acknowledged for these honors.
Caleb Rhynard (Kinesiology), Noah Gary (Japanese), Riley Norman (Psychology) and Clark Ruiz (Media and Information) were recognized on the men's side. Rhynard also earned the CoSIDA All-District 5 honors atop of his Academic All-Big Ten selection and a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar award.
On the women's side, Alexis Wiersma (Marketing), Shelby Jackson (Nutritional Science), Aubrey Wilberding (Advertising), Lindsay Clark (Mechanical Engineering), Rachele Schulist (Kinesiology), Katelyn Daniels (Human Biology), Lauren Chorny (Neuroscience), Hannah Sailar (Environmental Engineering) and Katie Landwehr (Mechanical Engineering) were the nine women who received the USTFCCCA Division I All-Academic honors. Chorny, Daniels and Wiersma were also named to the CoSIDA All-District 5 First team previously this year while Wiersma was recognized as an Academic All-Big Ten honoree and had received a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar honor.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track & Field Team, the student athlete must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher. They also must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 in a relay event during the indoor season. In regards to the outdoor season, the student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships, including the preliminary rounds. .
