Spartan Divers Finish Day One of Zone C Championships

West Lafayette, Ind. -- Junior Brennan LaBar opened the Zone C Diving Championships at the Boilermaker Aquatics Center in West Lafayette on Thursday, March 10, with an appearance in the finals of the men's 3-meter dive.
LaBar finished the competition with a total of 581.23 to finish 18th. Through the opening rounds, he posted a tally of 303.10 after six dives to enter the final session in 16th. Senior Charles Maurer ended the day in the prelims with a score of 236.50.
On the women's side, junior Madeline Sewell just missed a berth in the finals of the 1-meter dive, earning a score of 250.50 to finish 19th. Freshman Heidi Surdyk posted a top-25 performance, being awarded a 237.60 for six dives. Fellow freshmen Julia Oppedisano and Morgan Wellenzohn finished in 29th and 48th, respectively, with tallies of 232.65 and 191.35.
The Spartan divers return to action on Friday, March 11, for the men's 1-meter and women's 3-meter competitions starting a 1 p.m.
