MEET NOTES
The Spartans (3-4, 1-3 BIG) travel to Ann Arbor, Mich., on Sunday, Feb. 14, 2016 to take on Big Ten rival Michigan (7-1,3-1 BIG). The meet is at 2 p.m. at Crisler Center.
The Wolverines are currently ranked No. 3 in the nation and No. 1 in the conference. The last time the two teams met was Feb. 13, 2015 in East Lansing, Mich., when the Spartans fell to the Wolverines 196.725-194.850.
Last time out, the Spartans were edged by Big Ten rival Penn State (2/6), falling 195.700-195.175.
TEAM NOTES
Junior Elena Lagoski posted a 9.900 on floor to take the crown against Penn State (2/6), which was her 14th career-win on floor and fourth of the year. She is averaging a team-high 9.860 in the event this season, ranking her T-4th in the conference and 10th in the region for the event.
Junior Elena Lagoski finished in the top four in three events against Penn State (2/6), including first on floor (9.900), third on beam with a season-high 9.825 and fourth on vault with a 9.775, just shy of her season-high 9.800 in the quad meet (1/30). She now has 10 top three finishes this season, the second highest on the team behind Lisa Burt (13). Five of her 10 top three finishes are on floor.
Senior Nicola Deans posted three scores of a 9.800 or better against Penn State (2/6), including a season-best 9.850 on bars to place third, a 9.850 on beam to place third and a second place finish on vault (9.800), which was just shy of her season-high 9.850 in the quad meet (1/30). She is averaging a team-high 9.780 on vault this season.
Senior Lisa Burt captured the all-around title for the second time this season with a 39.250 against Penn State (2/6). Her first title was at Minnesota (1/23) where she earned a 39.150. She is averaging a team-high 38.944 in all-around competition this season.
Senior Lisa Burt earned three season-bests against Penn State (2/6) with a 39.250 in all-around, second place on bars (9.875), and a 9.850 on beam. She has a team-high 13 top three finishes this season.
Junior Kira Frederick matched her season-high 9.850 on floor against Penn State (2/6) to share the second-place spot with teammate Lisa Burt. She also notched a season-high 9.825 on bars, just missing her career-high 9.850.
Junior Holly Ryan scored a 9.775 on floor against Penn State (2/6) and is now averaging a 9.813 on the season, the second highest floor average on the team behind Elena Lagoski.
Floor proved to be the best event for the Spartans again last Saturday (2/6), notching a team score of 49.225 against Penn State. MSU's athletes posted five consecutive season-best scores to post a team 49.225, the Spartans' top team floor score of the season and is tied for 20th all-time in the MSU annuals.
MSU's team floor score (49.225) against Penn State (2/6) was the best team score since March 9, 2008 vs. New Hampshire.
The Spartans are now ranked 25th in the nation, fifth in the region and sixth in the conference on floor.
Three Spartans scored season-highs on bars against Penn State (2/6), with Nicola Deans' 9.850, junior Kira Frederick's 9.825 and freshman Jessica Ling's 9.775.
Freshman Jessica Ling notched a season-high 9.775 on bars against Penn State (2/6), just missing her career- high 9.800 at the quad meet (1/30).
Freshman Drew Hendershot earned a career-high 9.825 on floor against Penn State (2/6) to place fifth overall.
Redshirt senior Ashley Noll impressed with a season-high 9.800 on floor against Penn State (2/6) to place sixth overall.
Senior Brittany Holmes was an exhibition performer on vault and posted a 9.700 against Penn State (2/6), which would have been a career high. She also earned a 9.725 on beam.
The Spartans tied their season-best score on beam against Penn State (2/6) with a 48.875 behind individual season bests from Lisa Burt (9.850) and Elena Lagoski (9.825).
There are currently three Spartans ranked in the Top 25 in the region including Lisa Burt for all-around (13th), bars (8th) and beam (T-19th). Nicola Deans is ranked on beam (T-9th) and Elena Lagoski for all-around (24th) and floor (10th).
Five Spartans are ranked in the Top 25 in the Big Ten, including Lisa Burt for all-around (15th), bars (9th) and beam (16th); Elena Lagoski for vault (T-22nd) and floor (T-4th) Nicola Deans for vault (T-16th) and bars (T-11th); Kira Frederick for floor (T-18th) and Holly Ryan for floor (T-19th).
Next week, the Spartans will be back home in Jenison Field House on Friday, Feb. 19 at 7 p.m. against Big Ten rival Illinois (2-3, 2-2 BIG). The meet will serve as Senior Night.
