
Spartans Finish Second Day at Big Ten Indoors

EAST LANSING, Michigan - The Michigan State men's tennis team continued its action at the Big Ten Indoors tournament in Madison, Wisconsin at the Neilsen Tennis Stadium on Saturday, November 5.
"Three of our guys lost in the round of 32, and we still have opportunities to play in the back draw. We are looking to improve so we can have our skills ready to come January for regular season," said Head Coach Gene Orlando.
In the singles round of 32 consolation play juniors Brett Forman and Michael Dube were paired to play each other, ultimately resulting in a forefit. Sophomore Alexander Kim also won by forfeit.
Sophomores Ivan Rakic, Colin Harvey, Billy Shisler juniors Jasper Koenen and Micheal Dube, and freshman Doug Francken lost their first matches in the singles round of 64 consolation.
Forman and Kim had a bye in first round of consolation doubles play, before defeating Boyer and Bednarczyk of Nebraska 6-3. Shisler and Francken also had a bye in their first round then defeated Dean and Antoljak of Nebraska 7-6 (7-1).Rakic and Harvey dropped their decision 6-4 to a pair from Illinois.
As the consolation doubles play continued, Francken and Shisler defeated Gomes and Clark from Illinois 6-4, while Kim and Forman were victorious over Samardzija and Klousia of Nebraska 6-2.
After another long day, the Spartans will return to action on Sunday, November 6.
