Swimming & Diving Visits Cincinnati and Indiana

EAST LANSING, Mich.- Michigan State swimming & diving will visit the Keating Aquatics Center on Friday, Nov. 4, to face Cincinnati, and Indiana and Missouri State on Saturday, Nov. 5, at the Cousilman Billingsley Aquatics Center.
The women's team is coming off of a tough loss vs. Illinois on Oct. 21 and hope to advance on their past five first-place finishes against the Fighting Illini. Junior Catherine Armstrong carried the team with two of those first-place finishes, including a win in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 56.68 and a win in the 200-yard backstroke, touching the pad at 2:04.09.
Even though the season has only just begun, the women's team has posted some fast finishes. Junior Hayley Kornburger earned the team points with her first place finish in the 1000-yard freestyle, clocking a time of 10:31.87. Sophomore Ana Sortland was another first place-finisher with her time of 1:05.10 in the 100-yard backstroke.
The women's diving team also shined in the last meet with a win in the three-meter dive by sophomore Morgan Wellenzohn with a score of 276.85 and a win in the one-meter by sophomore Julia Oppedisano with a score of 281.10.
After a tough loss to Notre Dame and Iowa, the men's team is looking forward to getting back in the water. Freshman Scott Piper had the lone first-place finish for the Spartans in the last meet versus Notre Dame and Iowa, and is looking forward to earning another top time in the 200 individual medley.
Piper was named the Big Ten Freshmen of the Week on Wednesday, Oct. 5, after placing inside the top three in three different individual events. Senior Alec Kandt also earned a second-place finish, tapping the wall in the 200-meter breaststroke with a 2:29.37.
Both the men and women's teams are looking forward to a repeat of the 2015 season, when they both beat Cincinnati, 160.50-137.50 and 169.00-130.00 respectively, at the Charles McCaffree Pool in East Lansing, Mich.
