EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State women's tennis team travels to West Lafayette, Indiana, to partake in the Purdue Invite this weekend from Friday, Oct. 7 through Sunday, Oct. 9. Senior Erin Faulkner and sophomore Davina Nguyen will represent the Spartans in the invite that features competitors from 14 different schools across the country, including Big Ten opponents Illinois, Maryland and the host Boilermakers.
"There is a lot of good competition that we will be seeing ourselves up against, and we're going to see where we match up in terms of that," said head coach Kim Bruno. "I think we have endless possibilities with our roster, and Davina and Erin have been standouts throughout practices, so it will be great to see what they can accomplish this weekend."
Last weekend, MSU sent four competitors to the Wildcat Invite, where the Spartans found success and made positive strides on the opening weekend of the season. In singles play, the team went 7-5, led by junior Aslina Chua who went 3-0 and didn't drop a set on the weekend.
"I expect to see results similar to what we accomplished this past weekend," said Bruno. "Just competitiveness throughout the whole weekend, and where we begin is not as good as where we are going to end. We have had a great week of practice and are building on a lot of different things, and it's time for them to put it into play."
Friday and Saturday's schedules feature doubles rounds at 9 and 10 a.m. followed by singles at 12 and 1:30 p.m. The final round on Sunday will consist of just one round of singles play.
