
Piper Named Big Ten Freshman of the Week

EAST LANSING, Mich. â€" Michigan State swimming and diving freshman Scott Piper has been named Big Ten Freshman of the Week, as announced by the Big Ten office on Wednesday, Oct. 5. The Naperville, Ill., native earns the first Big Ten weekly honor of the 2016-17, after taking three individual places against Notre Dame and Iowa this past weekend.
Piper started his MSU swimming career off strong taking first place in his first collegiate event. The freshman took first in the 200 meter IM with a time of 2:12.98.
He also had a fourth place finish in the 200 meter butterfly with a time 2:10.51, and in his third and final race of the day Piper took ninth in the 200 meter breaststroke.
The Spartans return to action, Friday, Oct. 15 for their annual Alumni meet. The meet will be located in the McCaffree pool , and will begin at 11 a.m.
