
Three Spartans Named NACGC/W Scholastic All-Americans

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Three members of the 2015 Michigan State women's gymnastics team have been named Scholar All-Americans, as announced by the National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches/Women (NACGC/W). Nicola Deans, Katie Richter and Holly Ryan were recognized for having a GPA of 3.5 or higher during the 2014-15 academic year.
Leading the team with a 3.76 GPA on the year was junior Nicola Deans, a humanities major from Mississauga, Ontario. During the 2015 season, Deans was named Academic All-Big Ten and achieved career-highs on vault, bars and all-around.
Sophomore Katie Richter notched a 3.73 on the year, majoring in dietetics. The Darien, Illinois native was named Academic All-Big Ten in 2015, and made her Spartan debut on vault against Minnesota on Jan. 24.
Sophomore Holly Ryan rounded out the Spartan award winners with a 3.50 in the 2015 school year. The journalism major from Traverse City, Michigan was named Academic All-Big Ten and posted career-highs on vault, beam and floor in 2015.
In total, 627 gymnastics student-athletes from 74 institutions qualified for the NACGC/W Scholastic All-American Awards this season. Michigan State's 3.228 cumulative GPA ranked 48th in the nation.
With this year's total, head coach Kathie Klages now has 118 student-athletes on the NACGC/W Scholastic All-American list over her 25 years at MSU, as well as 142 Academic All-Big Ten selections.
