Spartans Advance to Final Four

WACO, Texas - For the second-straight day, a couple of Spartans had to adjust their play after rain delays.
And for the second-straight day, Harry Jadun and John Patrick Mullane defeated their opponent, No. 14 Boris Arias and Jordan Daigle of LSU, 6-3, 6-4, in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Doubles Championships.
"It was the best doubles match we've ever played," Mullane said. "We just trusted each other and went out there and executed our game plan."
The Spartans will take on the No. 22 pair of Hugo Dojas and Felipe Soares of Texas Tech tomorrow in the national semifinals. The match is scheduled to follow the singles matches, which are scheduled to take place at noon.
"Everything is really coming together for them," head coach Gene Orlando said. "They are playing their best tennis on the biggest stage."
The Spartans were solid throughout the entire match, hardly giving the Tigers any ground or any opening.
"(Jadun and Mullane) just got on top and left (Arias and Daigle) behind," assistant coach Damian Hume said. "The 300 Spartans came to mind as I was watching them play. They were just playing awesome, and no matter what their opponent did, they couldn't break through. Harry (Jadun) and JP (Mullane) were just awesome."
It was the eighth-consecutive doubles victory for Jadun and Mullane, and their 10th win over a ranked opponent.
"We're just trusting our coaches," Jadun said. "We're just trusting our strokes and playing our game."
The players' families even traveled down to Texas to watch them play in the tournament.
"They realize what the wins mean," Jadun said. "Which is good because JP (Mullane) and I really don't; we're just living in the moment and taking it one match at a time."
Jadun and Mullane (19-5, 7-1) are ranked No. 18 in the nation and they are the first All-Americans in program history in doubles; they have advanced farther than any other Michigan State doubles pair in the tournament.
"Everyone has been showing us so much love," Mullane said. "We're excited for the wins and for what they mean to Spartan Nation."
