
Jellisa Westney Tabbed Big Ten Track Athlete of the Week

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State track athlete Jellisa Westney was named the Big Ten Women's Track Athlete of the Week on Wednesday afternoon, as announced by the conference office. She is receiving the award for the first time in her career.
In her final tune-up for the Big Ten Championships, Westney won the women's 200 meter race at the Grand Valley State Second To Last Chance Meet on May 8. Westney clocked in with a career best time of 23.44, good for tops on the team and fourth overall in the Big Ten.
The victory was her second of the season in the 200 meter as she also won the event with a time of 24.77 at the Raleigh Relays on March 28. Westney also won the 100 meter dash in a time of 11.80 at the Raleigh Relays. She added another win in the 100 meter with a time of 11.87 at the Ohio State Jesse Owens Classic on May 2.
The Cambridge, Ontario, native was a second-team USTFCCCA All-American and also earned second-team All-Big Ten honors in 2013 as part of the MSU 4x400 meter relay team.
Westney and the rest of the Spartans will hit the track this weekend when Michigan State hosts the Big Ten Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The event will get underway at noon on Friday, May 15 and run through Sunday, May 17. Live results and additional meet information will be available here.
