
Spartans Fall at No. 8 Texas

AUSTIN, Texas - The Michigan State men's tennis team fell at No. 8 Texas on Thursday afternoon, 7-0, at the Caswell Tennis Center. The Longhorns improved to 12-1 on the season, while the Spartans now stand at 8-8.
Doug Zade and Jasper Koenen started the dual match strong for Michigan State with a 6-2 victory at No. 3 doubles over the Longhorn tandem of John Mee and Adrian Ortis-Ruiz.
The Longhorns evened things at No. 2 doubles as Adrien Berkowicz and George Goldhoff topped Brett Forman and Gijs Linders, 6-4. In a battled of ranked teams in the decisive match at No. 1 doubles, the 35th-ranked duo of Lloyd Glasspool and Soren Hess-Olesen handed No. 21 Harry Jadun and John Patrick Mullane just their third loss of the season, 6-4.
Texas, which features three top-60 players in its singles lineup, swept through the singles matches. Hess-Olesen, a two-time All-American who is ranked second in the nation, defeated Linders at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-0. At No. 2 singles, Forman lost to No. 52 Berkowicz, 6-4, 7-6.
Jadun took the first set from Goldhoff, who is ranked 60th, at No. 3 singles, 6-3, but lost in the second set, 6-4, and in the third set, 6-3.
John Patrick Mullane fell to Ortiz-Ruiz in the fourth spot at singles, 6-3, 6-0, and Mee recorded a 6-2, 7-6 win over Mac Roy at No. 5 singles. At No. 6 singles, Michael Dube lost 7-5, 6-3 to Clement Homs.
Michigan State returns to action for the Big Ten opener on Friday, March 20 against Penn State at 4 p.m. in East Lansing.
