
No. 15 Wolverines Sink Women's Swimming & Diving

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State women's swimming & diving team fell to the No. 15 Michigan Wolverines on Friday night, spoiling MSU's Senior Night by the score of 199-95. The Spartans tallied two victories on the night.
"I really give a lot of credit to our seniors," said head coach Matt Gianiodis. "They understood that this was going to be the last time that they are going to compete in this pool. All of them did a fantastic job today. This group of kids is a fantastic class; they represent the university and athletic department really well."
The Spartans started the evening taking second-place in the 400 medley relay. The team of freshman Madison Nowak, sophomore Kennedy Cutler, sophomore Sarah Love and junior Emily Parsons touched the boards at 3:51.89.
Senior Shelby Lacy highlighted her senior night winning the 50 breaststroke. Lacy finished with a winning time of 29.12.
Sarah Love also came in a close second in the 50 butterfly. She clocked in at 25.45, which is her fastest time of the season and the fastest time on the team on the year.
The divers had a strong night on the boards, senior Alison Menzies finished in second on the 3-meter board with a score of 307.58, senior Cristee Cordes came in second at 302.55. Sophomore Madeline Sewell took second on the 1-meter board at 286.20, Cordes finished in third at 276.45.
The senior duo of Hannah Pugh and Becca Berman finished third and fifth, respectively, in the 500 freestyle, Pugh finished at 5:01.32 and Berman finished at 5:09.66.
Sophomore Marina Borri took second-place in the 200 breaststroke, finishing at 2:21.65.
The Spartans had the two-fastest times in the 200 butterfly. Junior Elizabeth Brown was victorious with a 2:02.79 finish. Senior Hannah Pugh took second at 2:03.91. Brown also posted the Spartans fastest time of the year in the 100 IM at 59.41
The ladies return back to action at the Big Ten Championships, which will be hosted by Ohio State from Feb. 18-21 in Columbus, Ohio.
The men's swimming and diving team will face Michigan on Saturday at Noon at McCaffree Pool for the men's Senior Day.
