Fitterer, Reinig Earn All-North Region Honors

East Lansing, Mich. -- Michigan State juniors Chloe Reinig (South Lyon, Mich.) and Allyssah Fitterer (Burlington, Ontario) have been named Honorable Mention All-North Region by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA), as announced Tuesday morning. The duo helped MSU to the second round of the NCAA Tournament this season, falling to No. 1 Washington in Seattle on the Huskies' home court.
Fitterer, who earns All-Region honors for the second straight season, appeared in all 33 matches, and led MSU with a .301 hitting percentage, averaging 2.49 kills per set, good for third on the team. She also contributed 0.95 digs and 0.82 blocks per set, with six service aces on the year. She capped her year with double-digit kill performances in six of the final seven matches of the season, including in both NCAA Tournament matches.
Peaking when her team needed her most, Fitterer hit .259 or better in eight of her final nine contests, and in the NCAA Tournament hit .381 with with 2.83 kills, 1.7 digs, and 0.86 blocks per set vs. No. 24 Arkansas State and No. 1 Washington. She has six consecutive double-digit kill performances in NCAA Tournament matches over her three seasons, and is averaging 3.35 kills per set, hitting .374 with 0.73 digs and 0.58 blocks per set over her seven career NCAA tournament contests.
Reinig, an Honorable Mention All-American in 2014, earns All-Region honors for the second straight season as well. She was named an Honorable Mention All-Big Ten selection.
Reinig, who missed seven matches and the start of Big Ten play with an injury, has battled her way back into form and finished the season averaging 3.03 kills, contributing 0.62 blocks per set. She finished her season with eight consecutive double-digit kill matches, including her season-best 18 vs. Northwestern on Nov. 18. Over the final seven matches, Reinig hit .316 while averaging 3.65 kills, 0.65 blocks, and 0.50 digs per set. In seven career NCAA Tournament matches, Reinig has averaged 3.19 kills per set and hit .211
MSU finished the 2015 season with a 19-14 overall record, finishing in a tie for seventh in the Big Ten with a 10-10 record. MSU is one of four schools (along with Nebraska, Penn State, and Purdue) to finish .500 or better in Big Ten play in each of the last five seasons, and the Spartans have won their first-round NCAA Tournament matches in each of the last five seasons as well.
