Spartan Women Earn At-Large Bid

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State's women's cross country team, ranked No. 18 in the latest USTFCCCA Poll, earned an at-large big to the NCAA Championships in Louisville, Kentucky, on Nov. 21.
The Spartans finished third as a team on Friday, Nov. 13, at the Great Lakes Regional in Madison. Junior Alexis Wiersma led a trio of Spartans to All-Great Lakes Region honors with a third place, 20:33.8. Wiersma separated from the chase pack over the final 2,000 to cross in 20:33.8. Junior Shelby Jackson rounded out the top 10 of the 215-runner field with a time of 20:51.1. Jackson averaged a 5:36 per mile on the way to her first all-region recognition. Senior Katie Landwehr continued to be the Spartans' No. 3 runner, finishing just two back of Jackson with a time of 20:56.6.
MSU's men's team earned an automatic bid to the championships after finishing second at the regional meet on Friday.
