Trio of Spartans Win, Nguyen Finishes 3-0

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - A trio of Spartans notched wins on the final day of the Purdue Invite in West Lafayette on Sunday. Freshman Davina Nguyen finished the weekend 3-0 in singles and 3-2 in doubles with teammate junior Athena Trouillot.
"I'm pleased with how the weekend went," said head coach Simone Jardim. "We got better each day and will now focus on getting ready for regionals."
Nguyen ended her tournament with a straight-set victory over Louisville's Abbie Pahz, 6-4, 6-3. She moved to 5-3 this fall through two competitions.
Sophomore Lexi Baylis ended the Purdue Invite on a high note, battling through three sets to knock off Mary Closs of Notre Dame. After taking the opening set, 6-4, Baylis stumbled in the second, 6-3, and rebounded for a 7-6 (5) deciding set.
Sophomore Aslina Chua, bounced back from a singles loss on Saturday night to defeat Olivia Boesing of Louisville, 6-0, 6-4. Chua is 4-3 on the fall.
Through the year's first two tournaments, Nguyen and Trouillot lead the Spartans with five wins a piece in singles. The duo also has the most wins in doubles, posting a mark of 6-4 thus far.
Michigan State returns to action at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Midwest Regional Championships in Ann Arbor from Oct. 15-20.
