EAST LANSING, Mich. - After winning a gold medal at the North American-Central American and Caribbean (NACAC) Under-23 Championships last weekend, Michigan State's Tori Franklin was back in action on Saturday at the Pan American Olympic Festival in Mexico City, Mexico. Franklin, representing Team USA in the triple jump, improved on her previous mark and tied her personal best with a jump of 13.49 meters/44'-3", good for fifth place overall in the event.
"Tori had to battle a few challenges and obstacles, but she still managed to improve on her distance from last weekend. Anytime you do that, that's definitely a positive," said assistant coach Vanitta Kinard. "I think this competition was really good for her heading into her senior year and will help her in reaching her full potential."
Franklin, a five-time All-American at Michigan State, will return for her senior season with the Spartans in 2014-2015. The native of Westmont, Illinois already holds the MSU record for both the indoor (13.56 m) and outdoor (13.49 m) triple jump in addition to finishing tenth at the 2014 United States Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
