No. 13 Ohio State Tops Spartan Wrestling

MASSILLON, Ohio - Seventh-ranked heavyweight Mike McClure recorded his team-leading sixth pin of the season, but the Michigan State wrestling team fell to No. 13 Ohio State, 39-6, Friday night. The dual was held at Perry High School in Massillon, Ohio.
McClure extended his winning streak to four with the fall over Nick Tavanello in the second period. The Holland, Mich., native produced an early takedown in the first and added back points to go up 5-0 after the first period. After an escape to start the second, McClure delivered another takedown and then turned Tavanello for the pin.
McClure improves to 21-4 on the season and 5-2 in Big Ten duals.
The dual started at 125 pounds, and the Buckeyes jumped out to an early 12-0 lead with back-to-back pins by Nick Roberts and ninth-ranked Johnni DiJulius. Third-ranked Logan Stieber notched a technical fall over Brian Gibbs at 141 to make it 17-0.
Nick Trimble battled No. 20 Ian Paddock at 149 pounds, but Paddock came away with the 8-4 decision. Ohio State proceeded to win three straight matches by a 5-2 decision at 157, 165 and 174 pounds.
At 184, No. 11 Kenny Courts pinned John Rizqallah, and eighth-ranked Nick Heflin defeated Nick McDiarmid at 197 pounds by major decision, 10-2.
Michigan State (5-10, 0-7 Big Ten) returns to action to face Indiana in Bloomington, Ind., to take on the Hoosiers Sunday at 2 p.m. The match will be streamed live on the Big Ten Digital Network.
