GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Michigan State swimming and diving teams wrapped up competition for the 2014 calendar year on Saturday morning. The Spartans found success this weekend in Greensboro, coming away accomplishing some goals they set prior to competition.
"This weekend was an opportunity to swim against some of the best swimmers in the country," said associate head coach Kathleen Milloy. "All three swimmers did a superb job of taking advantage of the opportunities this weekend."
Senior Hannah Pugh was the Spartans lone competitor on Saturday. Pugh competed in the women's 200 butterfly. She finished with a time of 2:01.58.
"Hannah swam a great race today," said Milloy. "It was split very well and she looked very strong at the end. The time is her second fastest of her career. She has done an excellent job training this semester and is positioning herself for a great Big Tens."
The Spartans will be carrying momentum into January, as they hope to continue the start of the season they are enjoying. Two school records have been broken by senior Shelby Lacy and freshman Chanel Bonin. The men boast a record of 4-2 and are receiving votes in the CSCAA poll; the women hold a 3-4 record going into break.
Michigan State will return to action in Jan. 8-10 as they travels down to Indiana to face their Big Ten rival Purdue.
