EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State swimming and diving team will send senior Shelby Lacy, senior Hannah Pugh, and freshman Alex Trompke to the 2014 AT&T Winter Nationals Dec. 4-6, in Greensboro, North Carolina, at the Greensboro Aquatics Complex.
"I'm feeling really good heading into this weekend," said associate head coach Kathleen Milloy. "We have three athletes going, two seniors; it will be some really good national exposure for them. I think this will be another good opportunity to race, and they have a really good pool down there."
Lacy will compete in the women's 100 breaststroke. The preliminary round is scheduled to start at 10:40 a.m. on Friday. Earlier this year, she posted the fastest time in school history in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:02.14 at the Northwestern TYR Invitational.
Pugh will compete in the 400 IM and 200 butterfly in Greensboro. The 400 IM is scheduled to start on Friday, at 9 a.m. and the 200 butterfly is scheduled for 10:31 a.m. Saturday. Pugh holds the school record in the 400 IM. She posted season best times in both the 400 IM and 200 butterfly at the Northwestern TYR Invitational.
"I feel pretty good, it feels nice to be coming off some rest," said Pugh. "I was able to go home, sleep and get some rest. I would like to record some best times, which is ultimately my goal."
Trompke will be participating in the 100 backstroke, which is scheduled to start at 10:59 a.m. Friday and the 100 butterfly, which is scheduled to start at 9:46 a.m. Friday. He recorded the fifth-fastest time in school history at the Northwestern TYR Invitational, with a time of 49.42. Trompke also had the eighth-fastest time in school history at Northwestern, finishing at 48.35.
