Spartans Open ITA Midwest Regional Championship Play

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The Michigan State men's tennis team opened play in the ITA Midwest Regional Championships with singles qualifying Thursday.
All four Spartans participating in singles qualifying fell in the first round.
The No. 3 seed in singles qualifying, Mac Roy, fell to Sergiu Muresan from Chicago State, 0-6, 6-1, 6-4.
Cleveland State's Manuel Belutti, 7-5, 6-4, defeated Michael Dube, the No. 14 seed.
Louis Phillippe-Hamel of Northern Illinois knocked off Jasper Koenen, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2. And Doug Zade's defeat by Jorge Gonzalez Soler from Wisconsin-Green Bay, 2-6, 6-4, 6-4, rounded out the Spartans' performances for the day.
Michigan State has a lot to look forward to on Friday, however, with five Spartans participating in the singles and doubles main draws.
Doubles play will begin first, with John Patrick Mullane and Harry Jadun holding down the No. 6 seed. Mullane and Jadun are matched up against Youngstown State's Remi Chancerel and Silviu Mistreanu. Brett Forman and Gijs Linders, the No. 14 seed, have a first round match up with Alex Galoustian and Nathan de Veer of Depaul. Dube and Roy will pair up to take on Wisconsin-Green Bay's duo of Joey Leto and Michael Tebon, and Alexander Kim and Zade face Drew Dawson and Eric Schnurrenberger of Notre Dame.
Many spots in singles have yet to be determined, however Mullane, Linders, Forman and Jadun have already qualified for the main draw. Mullane is the No. 8 seed.
