EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State gymnastics finished its regular season on the road as it fell to No. 13 University of Denver, 196.400-193.450. MSU reached a season high on vault, 49.075.
Sophomore Alina Cartwright led the Spartans on vault with a 9.950 to tie for second overall and second in the Michigan State gymnastics all-time record book. Cartwright's score also served as her career-high on the event. Senior captain Taira Neal earned fourth place as she registered a score of 9.900. Tying for sixth place was sophomore Ashley Noll as she tallied a season-best mark of 9.800. Taking first on the vault was Pioneer Moriah Martin with a perfect score, 10.000. MSU compiled a 49.075 on the event, while Denver posted a 49.325.
On the uneven bars, sophomore Ashley Stevenson tied for third to lead the Spartans as she recorded a 9.750 mark. Freshman Lisa Burt followed notching a 9.725 to take sixth place. Placing seventh in the event was freshman Kate Filosi, posting a 9.675. Nina McGee led the competition for Denver and earned top honors on the event with a score of 9.900. The Pioneers edged the Spartans, 48.625-48.400.
Pacing MSU on the balance beam was Cartwright, registering a 9.825 to place fifth. Junior Dani Levy was next for the Spartans at seventh, recording a score of 9.775. Marking a 9.750 on the beam was junior Alex Pace for eighth place. Pioneer Jorie Hall earned a 9.925 to take first on the beam and contribute to Denver's final score of 49.275. Michigan State notched a 47.900 on the event.
Leading the Green and White on floor was Noll, earning a mark of 9.700 to tie for sixth place. Earning a score of 9.675 to take eighth was Burt, while Levy took ninth with a 9.650. Placing first in the event was McGee, scoring a 9.900. Denver tallied a 49.175 to top MSU's 48.075 on floor.
Cartwright compiled a 38.975 in the all-around to sit at second. To take third, Burt tallied a 38.025. Placing first was Martin, with an all-around score of 39.500.
Michigan State will host the Big Ten Championship in East Lansing, Mich., on Saturday, March 23. MSU will compete at 1 p.m. in the first session of the championship meet.
