
Women's Tennis Falls to Akron, 5-2

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Despite claiming the doubles point, the Michigan State women's tennis team were topped, 5-2, by Akron at home. Junior Michaela Silesova and freshman Julianne Gruber's 9-8 doubles victory over Angelika and Angelina Jogasuria secured the first point for MSU. Sophomore Katarina Lingl was the lone Spartan to win a singles match.
Also in doubles, redshirt junior Dana Guentert and freshman Hilary Hager defeated Natasha Kuvakina and Ksenia Beretetska, 8-4, at the No. 3 position. Junior Nicole Herzog and Lingl were dropped, 8-5, by Zara Harutyunoya and Prang Pantusart at the No. 1 spot.
Lingl defeated Jogasuria at the No. 4 singles spots after losing 5-7 in the first set, and then winning 6-4, 6-2. Sophomore Olga Chernova fought hard at the No. 2 position, but fell in a tie breaker to Olga Shkundina, 6-7, 6-5, 10-8. Silesova also played three sets against her opponent Pantusart, but eventually lost, 3-6, 6-2, 6-1. Guber was topped by Berestetska, 6-3, 6-2 while freshman Hilary Hager was defeated, 6-2, 6-4 by Kuvakina.
Next Sunday, January 29th, the Spartans host Eastern Michigan at noon.
