
Women's Tennis Tops Eastern Michigan, 5-2

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State women's team notched their second win of the season over Eastern Michigan, 5-2, at home today. Despite losing the doubles point for the first time this season, five Spartans were able to secure singles wins, giving MSU the victory.
In doubles play, Eastern Michigan recorded wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots. Mariya Toncheva and Georgia de'Lisle-Tarr dropped junior Nicole Herzog and sophomore Katarina Ling, 8-4. The duo of junior Michaela Silesova and freshman Julianne Gruber suffered their first doubles loss of the season to Nino Mebuke and Daphne Friedrichs, 8-6.
Redshirt junior Dana Guentert and freshman Hilary Hager defeated Ankita Bhatia and Marcela Rivero, 8-1, at the No. 3 spot.
Returning back to the lineup for the first time this season, sophomore Marina Bohrer dropped Toncheva at the No. 3 singles position, 6-0, 6-4. Lingl was able to stay undefeated at the No. 5 position, recording a 6-4, 2-6, 11-9 victory over Friedrichs.
Sophomore Olga Chernova edged Bhatia, 6-2, 6-4, at the No. 2 spot, while Silesova won her match against Rivero, 6-3, 6-3. Gruber was also victorious, notching a 6-2, 6-1 win over de'Lisle-Tarr. Mebuke was able to top Herzog at the No. 1 position, 6-2, 6-2.
The Spartans are set to host Cleveland State on Saturday, Feb. 4th, at 2 p.m at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility.
