
Women's Tennis Travels to Wildcat Invite

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State women's tennis team travels to Northwestern this weekend to compete in the Wildcat Invitational. The tournament will take place from Friday, Sept. 30 to Sunday, Oct. 2. The Spartans kicked off their fall tournament season last weekend by hosting the Spartan Invitational where the Green and White tallied 11 singles wins and three doubles victories.
Wildcat Invitational Brackets
Representing the Spartans in the Draw A singles at the Wildcat Invitational is junior Amy Barton. Barton went 2-2 last weekend defeating Henestrosa of IPFW, 1-6, 6-2, 10-4 and Villajuan of Louisville, 6-0, 6-1. Sophomore Olga Chernova will compete in the Draw B singles bracket. Chernova tallied a singles victory against Villajuan of Louisville, 6-3, 7-6 (3) at the Spartan Invite.
Sophomore Katarina Lingl and freshman Julianne Gruber will play in the Draw C singles. Lingl recorded one singles victory in the previous weekend's opener, dropping Forsyth of IPFW, 6-3, 6-1. Gruber started off her career in the green and white with two singles wins over Huck of IPFW, 6-2, 6-0 and Sharples of UIC, 6-2, 6-2. In the Draw D singles, the Spartans will have freshman Hilary Hager, sophomore Jennifer Yen and redshirt junior Dana Guentert competing. Hager recorded three back-to-back wins in the Spartan Invite, defeating Duncan of Louisville 6-7 (4), 7-6 (8), 10-8 for her third victory. Yen defeated Huck of IPFW 6-4, 6-2.
The duo of Barton and Chernova will represent the Green and White in Draw A doubles and two pairings will compete in Draw B doubles; Lingl and Gruber will play alongside of each other as well as Hager and Yen.
Teams competing in the Wildcat Invitational this weekend along with the Spartans are Illinois, Western Michigan, Illinois-Chicago, DePaul, Oklahoma, Northwestern, South Carolina, Iowa, Wisconsin and Minnesota.
