Women's Tennis Wraps Up Day Two of Spartan Invitational

Day Two Results
EAST LANSING, Mich. -The Michigan State women's tennis team concluded its second day of hosting the Spartan Invitational. Due to the MSU home football game, Saturday's action took place at both East Lansing High School and Mason High School. The Spartans ended the day with one doubles win and two singles victories in the Draw C Singles.
Freshman Hilary Hager and sophomore Jennifer Yen were the two Spartans who tallied singles victories in the Draw C Singles bracket. In a tight match, Hager dropped Magi of Purdue, 6-7 (4), 7-5 (14-12). Yen defeated Huck of IPFW 6-4, 6-2. Freshman Julianne Gruber received a loss in her match due to a default because of medical reasons.
In Draw A Singles, junior Amy Barton fell to Sulahian of Michigan 6-0, 6-3. Brown of Louisville topped sophomore Olga Chernova, 4-6, 6-2, 10-7. During Draw B Singles action, junior Nicole Herzog dropped both of her singles matches by default. Sophomore Katarina Lingl was edged by Vescovi of IPFW 7-6, 7-6.
In a close match, in Draw A Doubles, Barton and Gruber defeated Forsyth and Huck of IPFW, 9-8 (7-2). But were later defeated by Lee and Dodge of Michigan, 8-2. Herzog and Lingl fell to both Hush and Dawson of Marquette and Simonetti and Guimaraes of UIC.
During Draw B Doubles, Hager and redshirt junior Dana Guentert were defeated by Knoppe and Hricistova of UIC 8-2. Chernova and Yen dropped their match to Shine and Duncan of Louisville, 8-2. The two MSU pairings will face off with each other in competition tomorrow.
The last day of the tournament will take place tomorrow, Sunday, Sept. 25th at 9 a.m. Play returns back to the Michigan State Outdoor Tennis Courts.
