Spartans Drop Tough 1-0 Decision to Marshall

East Lansing, Mich. - The Michigan State men's soccer team dropped a tough 1-0 decision to Marshall at DeMartin field on Sunday. Jeremy Clark had four saves for the Spartans, but MSU struggled to maintain consistent offensive pressure and could not find the back of the net.
With 13 minutes remaining in the opening half, Marshall took a 1-0 lead with a goal by Tom Jackson, off an assist from Matt Risher. It was the first goal of the season for the Herd, which had been shut out in its previous four games this season. As it played out, it would be the only score of the day for either team. It was the first goal the Spartans had allowed in the run of play through five games this season.
Both team's goalies finished the day with four saves. MSU outshot the Herd 13-7, but had one fewer shot on net (5-4). Marshall was whistled for 17 fouls, compared to the 13 for MSU.
MSU will next play on Friday, Sept. 16 when it travels to Milwaukee to take on Marquette in the first game of the Big Ten-BIG EAST Challenge. The Spartans will host Notre Dame next Sunday (Sept 17) at DeMartin Stadium at 1 p.m.
