EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State right-handed pitcher Tony Bucciferro and second baseman Ryan Jones have been selected to play in the 49th annual Cape Cod League All-Star Game Friday, July 29 at Fenway Park. Bucciferro and Jones, who both play for the Brewster Whitecaps, will represent the East Division.
Bucciferro, a first-team All-Big Ten pitcher this past season, leads the East Division with 35 strikeouts and is second with a 1.70 ERA. Although his record is 1-3, Bucciferro has allowed just eight earned runs in 42 1/3 innings, has walked only seven batters, and has surrendered one earned run or less in five of his seven starts.
Jones is sixth in the East Division with a .293 batting average and also owns a .363 on-base percentage. The Haslett, Mich., native, also a first-team All-Big Ten selection in 2011, has 10 multi-hit games, including five three-hit games. He has four doubles and nine RBIs.
Bucciferro and Jones have helped put Brewster in first place in the five-team East Division standings.
In addition, third baseman Torsten Boss is playing in the West Division for the Cotuit Kettleers. In 27 games, Boss is batting .262 with 12 RBIs.
The Cape Cod League All-Star Game will be televised on Comcast SportsNet New England, Comcast SportsNet Chicago, Comcast SportsNet California, Comcast SportsNet MidAtlantic, The Mtn and CSS, reaching an estimated 34 million homes. Earlier this summer, right-handed pitcher Tony Wieber participated in the Coastal Plain League All-Star Game, while left-handed pitcher Ryan Martin played in the Great Lakes League All-Star Game. Wieber and Martin each threw one scoreless inning in their time on the mound, and Wieber earned the save.
