Mahoney Discharged From Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State senior gymnast Kathryn Mahoney (Western Springs, Ill.), who underwent successful surgery to stabilize her C6 vertebra after fracturing it while vaulting in a Dec. 29 practice, was discharged from the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago on Friday, April 8. Mahoney will now continue her rehabilitation with the RIC as an outpatient from her home.
"I am very excited that Kathryn Mahoney was discharged from the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago yesterday," said MSU head coach Kathie Klages. "Kathryn has worked extremely hard each and every day to get better, and continues to improve on a daily basis. We certainly wish her the very best as she goes into the next phase of her recovery stage. We look forward to welcoming her back on campus in the near future."
The Spartans dedicated their 2011 season to Mahoney by wearing removable tattoos on their cheeks in the shape of a heart around a $ to signify Mahoney's nickname, Money. The logo was also etched into each their leotards this season on the left shoulder. Also, the team wore black t-shirts this season that say, "'We stomp our tricks' - KM".
MSU gave tribute the best way it knew how by tying its best finish at an NCAA Regional event in program history when it placed third overall at the Corvallis Regional on Saturday, April 2.
A fund has been set up for Kathryn Mahoney at the MSU Federal Credit Union, and donations will be used for any necessities that she needs as she begins the post-operative, recovery stage.
