
Gymnastics Places Third at NCAA Corvallis Regional

CORVALLIS, Ore. - Tying its program-best finish, the Michigan State gymnastics team placed third overall at the NCAA Corvallis Regional on Saturday, April 2 in Corvallis, Ore. This marked the eighth time, and second since 2008, MSU has placed third in its 21 regional appearances.
Winning the regional was host Oregon State with a team score of 197.025. Nebraska followed in second with a 196.550 while MSU had a 194.525 for third. San Jose State (194.425), Iowa (193.925) and Southern Utah (193.775) rounded out the competing schools in Gill Coliseum.
MSU's top individual performance came from freshman Dani Levy as she placed fifth overall on the floor with a personal-best score of 9.875.
Competing on the typical Olympic rotation, the Spartans opened the meet on the vault and were led by sophomore Taira Neal with a personal-high mark. Neal posted a score of 9.775 to place 13th overall. Erin Davis of Nebraska and Britney Ranzy of Oregon State both finished first with scores of 9.875. MSU ended the event with a team score of 48.325.
Following a rotation bye, the Spartans proceeded to the uneven bars where the team finished with a score of 48.750. Junior Jackie Berg placed 11th overall with a 9.800 mark. Levy and junior Daneen Haba were tied for second on the team with 9.750 marks, good enough for 19th place. Junior Selina Rodriguez had an impressive performance on the bars as she finished with a season-high 9.725 mark. Oregon State's Leslie Mak placed first on the event with a 9.900 score.
Michigan State once again was led by Berg on the balance beam with her season-best 9.750 tally. Berg was joined by freshman Sarena Bumbarger for 15th-place overall as she also had a 9.750 mark. Freshman Kelsey Mazur entered the beam lineup for only the second time this season and recorded a career-best mark of 9.700. Mak won her second apparatus win of the evening with a 9.900 on the beam. MSU recorded a team score of 48.525 on the beam.
After its final bye of the competition, the Green and White concluded the meet strong with its best team-score of 48.925 on the floor exercise. Senior Nicole Argiros and Berg both finished behind Levy with identical 9.825 marks. Argiros and Berg both finished 15th overall. Lora Evenstad of Nebraska, Makayla Stambagh and Britney Ranzy of Oregon State and Katie Valleau of San Jose State all finished with a score of 9.900.
Levy also represented the Spartans in the all-around competition. Levy finished the competition with a combined score of 38.450, good enough for 11th overall. Mak took home the all-around crown with a score of 39.475.
