
Gymnastics Travels to Minnesota for Big Ten Championships

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State gymnastics team enters the 2011 Big Ten Championships fresh off an RQS of 193.795. MSU enters the Championships looking for its first team championship in program history, and first individual title since 2006 when Chayla Hill tied for first on the vault. MSU's high score of 195.450 was recorded against Alaska-Anchorage on Feb. 27.
Vault
MSU currently is seventh on the vault in the nation with score of 48.670. Green and White posted its high score of the year against Minnesota at home when it tallied a 48.800. Michigan leads the conference with a 49.295 mark.
Senior Nicole Argiros the top vaulter for the Spartans on the year. Argiros is currently tied for 21st in the conference with a 9.780. Robinson's season high of 9.850 was posted against Alaska-Anchorage. Kylee Botterman of Michigan and Sharaya Musser of Penn State pace the league with identical 9.915 marks.
Uneven Bars
The Spartans are currently seventh in the conference with a 48.770 mark on the bars. MSU posted its high score at home against both Illinois and Alaska-Anchorage with a 49.00. Penn State ranks tops in the Big Ten with a 49.180 score
Junior Jackie Berg leads the team on the bars with her ninth ranked Big Ten score of 9.830. Berg recorded her season-best score of 9.875 on three separate occasions - the opening quad of the season, at West Virginia and against Illinois. Natalie Ettl of Penn State leads all conference gymnasts with a 9.910 mark.
Balance Beam
The Green and White has rebounded on the beam this season, after struggling on the event in earlier this season. The Spartans have gone on to make them rank seventh with a 48.305. The Spartans posted their season-best score (49.075) against Illinois earlier this season. Ohio State holds a 49.015 mark to lead the conference on the year.
Senior Kelsey Morley currently leads the team individually on the balance beam, tying 17th in the league with a 9.790. Morley's top mark of the season occurred at Washington with a 9.850. Musser also leads the Big Ten on the beam with a 9.905 mark.
Floor Exercise
Michigan State currently boasts the seventh-best score with a 48.635. MSU recorded its season high hosting Illinois with a 49.075 score. The Wolverines lead the Big Ten with a 49.175 mark.
Bert also tops the team on the floor with a mark of 9.845 which ranks 26th in the big Ten. Berg accomplished her season-high of 9.850 at home against Illinois. Allison Buckley of Illinois and Botterman pace the league with 9.890 marks. Curler posted her season-best score of 9.875 the opening weekend of competition.
All Around
Sophomore Shanthi Teike leads MSU in the all-around as she is 16th in the conference with a 38.135 mark. Musser also paces the conference as she boasts a score of 39.515.
2010 Big Ten Championships Recap
MSU traveled to Columbus, Ohio for the Big Ten Championships hosted by Ohio State. Shanthi Teike and Rochelle Robinson placed third on the vault and bars, respectively.
The Spartans finished tied with Minnesota for fourth place with a score of 195.350. Michigan placed first with a score of 196.600, while Penn State finished second with a 196.525. Iowa was third with a 195.575 mark. Illinois was sixth (195.025), while Ohio State was seventh (194.700).
Next Up for MSU
The Spartans await to see where they qualify for the NCAA Regionals on April 2. Institutions hosting regionals include the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor, Mich.), the University of Georgia (Athens, Ga.), Oregon State University (Corvallis, Ore.), the University of Denver (Denver, Colo.), University of Oklahoma (Norman, Okla.) and University of Alabama (Tuscaloosa, Ala.).
