Gymnastics Closes Out Regular Season at No. 4 Oklahoma

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State gymnastics team closes out its 2011 regular season when it travels to Norman, Okla., to face No. 4 Oklahoma on Friday, March 11. With the Spartans sitting just outside the top-36 nationally, they look to improve their chances at a potential NCAA Regional bid with a strong performance this weekend. Action is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. inside the Lloyd Noble Center.
MSU enters the weekend with an overall regional qualifying score (RQS) of 193.350 for 39th overall. The Spartans' top apparatus mark comes in the uneven bars where it ranks 28th with an RQS of 48.730. The Green and White also post an RQS of 48.660 (35th) on the vault and a 48.530 (46th) on the floor exercise. On the balance beam, MSU's RQS is 48.120, placing it 40th nationally.
Junior Jackie Berg is the top gymnast for the Spartans on the bars with an RQS of 9.825 (53rd). Senior Nicole Argiros sits atop the team leaderboard on the vault with an RQS of 9.780 (117th). Senior Kelsey Morley leads MSU on both the balance beam with a 9.765 RQS, placing 89th nationally. Sophomore Shanthi Teike has an RQS of 9.755 (165th) to lead the team on the event.
Oklahoma enters the weekend ranked fourth nationally with an overall RQS of 196.515. The Sooners' top event on season is the 49.200 RQS. On the vault, Oklahoma has a 49.170 RQS (eighth) while it posts a 49.165 (ninth) on the uneven bars this season.
Megan Ferguson leads Oklahoma on the balance beam with the third-best RQS of 9.8855. Sara Stone is tops on the team on the vault with a 9.900 RQS for eighth nationally. On the uneven bars, Natasha Kelly boasts an RQS of 9.885 while Kayla Nowak currently has a 9.875 on the floor exercise. Both Kelly and Nowak rank ninth in their respective events nationally.
Michigan State opens postseason action when it travels to Minneapolis, Minn., for the Big Ten Championships on Saturday, March 19 hosted by the University of Minnesota.
