
Women's Tennis Drops Eastern Michigan, 7-0

EAST LANSING, Mich. - In its third shutout of the season, the Michigan State women's team improved to a record of 4-1 after blanking Eastern Michigan, 7-0, at home on Sunday, Feb. 6. The Spartans captured the double's point for the fifth time this season and swept singles for the second consecutive match.
Sophomore Amy Barton tallied a single's victory in the No. 1 spot for the Spartans as she defeated Miriam Westerink, 6-1, 6-3. In one of the closest matches of the day, freshman Valentina Ruskacova vigorously battled Nino Mebuke to capture the win, 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (8). Marina Bohrer edged Xu Change, 6-1, 6-0, in the No. 3 slot. Senior Whitney Wilson held off Mariya Tocheva, 6-4, 6-0. Sophomore Dana Guentert tallied a 6-3, 6-0 win over Marcela Rivero. Freshman Michaela Silesova notched another win for the Spartans, downing Georgia de'Lisle-Tarr, 6-4, 6-1, in the No. 6 singles position.
Barton and Bohrer continued their undefeated doubles streak at the No. 1 spot by topping Westerink and Mebuke in an incredibly close match, 8-7 (5). Wilson and Silesova took down Toncheva and Donnet, 8-1, at No. 2 doubles. Guentert and sophomore Nicole Herzog paired up to defeat Chang and de'Lisle-Tarr by a score of 8-6.
The Spartans return to the court on Sunday, Feb. 13th when they host Miami of Ohio in their sixth-consecutive home match. The dual meet is slated to begin at 9:30 a.m. and will take place at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility.
