Track & Field Concludes Action at Meyo Invitational

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The Michigan State track & field team wrapped up action at the Meyo Invitational hosted by Notre Dame on Saturday, Feb. 5 with two second-place finishes. Emily MacLeod and Joe Banyai finished second in the 1-mile run and 800-meter unseeded run, respectively. Overall, the team had 19 top-10 finishes for the day.
MacLeod finished the 1-mile Meyo run with a personal-best time of 4:42.08, only 1.46 seconds behind Rebecca Addison of Michigan in first.
Banyai clocked in a career-best 1:52.02 in the unseeded 800-meter run to finish only 0.35 behind Kyle Winter of Marquette.
Erica Mann recorded a sixth-place finish in the finals of the 60-meter dash (7.56) as well as an eighth-place time of 24.64 in the seeded 200-meter dash.
Yury Ratomski followed in Mann's path as he also ran in both the 60-meter dash and 200-meter dash finals. Ratomski was seventh in the 60-meter (6.90) and fourth in the 200-meter (21.63) for the day.
Leslie Aririguzo clocked in a time of 24.89 in the unseeded 200-meter dash to place third overall in the event. Aririguzo was also sixth in the finals of the 60-meter hurdles, finishing in 8.55.
Placing eighth in the seeded 800-meter run was Amelia Bannister with a time of 2:12.01. Meanwhile, Stephen Humes was just outside the top-10 in 11th place in the men's seeded 800-meter run as he finished the race in 1:53.65.
Competing in the seeded 400-meter dash was Alysson Bodenbach. Bodenbach clocked in at 56.96 for 11th overall.
Aaron Simoneau paced the Spartan runners in the Ryan Shay 3000-meter run with a time of 8:12.39. Simoneau's time was good enough for sixth place. Josh McAlary also represented MSU in the race with a ninth-place finish of 8:15.53.
Finished tied for third in the women's pole vault was Sarah Birkmeier with a height of 3.85m. Birkmeier topped teammate Ashley Smith in seventh with a vault of 3.70m.
The men had two high jumpers place in the top-10 in the event. Cliff Miller finished seventh with a jump of 2.15m and Kevin Jackson was eighth with a 2.07 mark.
The men also were represented in the triple jump by Amir Arif. Arif placed sixth overall with a leap of 14.51m.
In the unseeded 1-mile run, Spencer Beatty led the string of three-consecutive Spartan runners with a time of 4:13.62 for sixth. Joe Dimambro followed Beatty in seventh (4:13.69) and Stephen Walker finished in eighth (4:13.93).
Ben Miller also competed in the unseeded 3000-meter run, turning in a sixth-place time of 8:28.68.
The Spartans continue action next weekend when they remain in Michigan for the GVSU Big Meet in Allendale, Mich. The Grand Valley State hosted event will see MSU competing on Friday-Saturday, Feb. 11-12.
