
Women's Tennis Downs Cleveland State, 5-2

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State women's tennis team captured its seventh win of the season by dropping Cleveland State, 5-2. The Spartans are now 7-1 on the season after today's (Feb. 19) victory at home. MSU took its eighth-straight doubles point against the Vikings.
Leading in doubles play was sophomore Amy Barton and freshman Marina Bohrer at the No. 1 position. The pair defeated Catrine Bjerrehus and Kara Sherwood by a score of 8-3. Senior Whitney Wilson and sophomore Michaela Silesova were topped, 8-,3 by Alex Power and Alex Bush. Sophomores Nicole Herzog and Dana Guentert defeated Nicole Janek and Maria Lataris, 8-5, to secure the doubles point at the No. 3 spot.
Barton also tallied a singles win in a tough match against Bjerrehus, prevailing 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (4). Freshman Valentina Rusakova downed Alex Power, 6-2, 6-4, at the No. 2 singles position. Sherwood was topped by Bohrer, 6-2, 6-0. At the No. 4 position, Silesova posted a 6-1, 6-2 win over Bush. Freshman Katarina Lingl fell to Janek, 7-6, 6-2, 1-0 (6). Herzog was defeated by Lataris, 7-5, 6-2, at No. 6 singles.
Next up the Spartans travel to Ann Arbor, Mich., on Saturday, Feb. 26th to face Michigan in the first conference match of the season. Match time is set for 6 p.m. MSU returns home on Feb. 27th to host Toledo at 3 p.m. at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility.
